Getting started

How does Hellsplit: Workbench expand the possibilities of Unreal Engine?

Hellsplit: Workbench is a custom version of the engine Unreal Engine 4.27 which includes the framework of the game Hellsplit: Arena.

It means that the content, models, characters, classes, weapons, components and many other things that you have seen in the game Hellsplit: Arena are available for usage and expansion in Hellsplit: Workbench.

In practice, it looks like this: you do not need to create your content from scratch, as you can use the ready-made library in order to create your own levels and campaigns, place the enemies on them ready to interact and fight with them using any weapon you can only imagine.

Use, improve and expand the built-in components of Hellsplit: Arena to create the most incredible content!

What type of the content can I create?

Technically it depends only on your phantasy now, you can create any content you would like. However, it is worth remembering that Hellsplit: Arena is a game which is actively evolved and regularly updated. It means that the Hellsplit: Workbench depends on these changes. We permanently improve the existing code and bring variety, but the price for this is the problem of compatibility with the old versions. In practice it means that definite parts of the framework can drastically change during the time and this will require the introduction of the changes in the existing mods to support their compatibility with the new versions of the game.

What to begin with?

As mentioned above, technically you can begin the development of any type of the content right away. However, for greater convenience of users, we added a range of the templates in the application for an easy start. You can choose one or several templates that you like, make certain changes, then test them and your first mod is ready!

How do I name my first mod?

Due to the technical peculiarities of the application the naming of the mod becomes a very important issue, as it is impossible to install the mods with identical names into the game. Unreal Engine is very strict about the placement of the folders containing mods and their names, so if you give too common name to your mod, the players can face problems with its installation in the future due to the conflicts with other mods.

Moreover there is no convenient possibility currently to easily rename the mod. It is described below how do it, but the easiest way is to choose a unique name for your mod right from the start. For such purposes it is good to use the combination of your nickname and mod name without too general words.

Pay attention that the version of the mod does not to be included in the name, other fields will be provided to enter the version number.
